Why do I need a separate site for photography?
I don't, but I'm making one anyway.
The most recent switch of baty.net back to Hugo from Ghost felt good. It still feels good. Who knows, maybe this time it will stick. And yet, I kept the original Ghost version around, just in case, since I hate to actually commit to anything. One thing I noticed about my use of Ghost is that it's a much nicer experience for uploading and displaying photos. Simply dragging and dropping a bunch of JPEGs into the editor and another one into the area for a Featured Image is so easy. The images are uploaded, stored, and resized automatically. This, in contrast to the hoops I jump through when using a static site generator, is too good to ignore.
It got me thinking, yet again, about keeping a separate blog for my photography. I don't need one, and at first I thought I was doing that thing I do where I justify having multiple blogs, when I really just want to play with blogging tools. It may have started out that way, but I think there's more to it.
I'd like to take my photography more seriously. Or at least I'd like to do more of it. Maybe having a dedicated space for sharing and writing about photography will help with that.
To that end, I'm going to keep this Ghost blog around as baty.photo and see where it leads.
What am I going to post about, here? Fair question. I'm thinking the same as I normally do: Film rolls, camera nerdary, etc. I may do more single-image posts, with a bit of back story. It's wide open right now.
Oh, by the way, you can follow me on the Fediverse (via ActivityPub) using @jack@baty.photo
